Let go, Trust and Allow

For years, my guidance told me to, ‘let go, trust and allow.’ But I didn’t know what it meant. I was busy creating my life through my mind and willpower. I enjoyed life, but I was working hard to force it in the direction I wanted it to go. It wasn't until I surrendered that I realised there was an entirely different way to experience the world.

Setting goals, planning and working hard, I didn’t realise I was clinging to life. My rational mind was happily in control. In contrast, to surrender is to align with the universal flow of life, the creative force in all things. It is to release the control of the rational conscious mind.

I believe the rational mind has taken control because we are unconsciously taught the world is not safe. We are conditioned to believe there is never enough, we must work hard and compete for our survival. Our vigilant amygdala is on the lookout for potential threats, leading to scarcity thinking, protective behaviors and fighting for what’s ‘ours’.

My moment of surrender happened while on pilgrimage walking an ancient energy line between Perth and Uluru. For the next 6 months, my life went into complete chaos. Everything I held close to my heart exploded and went into suspension around me. Nothing was certain. I didn’t know what would become real.

I had to wait. I had to hold the space of not knowing.

Our rational mind craves certainty. The smallest amount of uncertainty can trigger the amygdala to take us into fight, flight or freeze. We feel rewarded when we have certainty, and we tend to move towards it even when it’s more beneficial to hold the space of not knowing.

A wise teacher taught how to be comfortable with uncertainty. He showed me how to hold space during times of transformational chaos so ‘there’s room for the new to show up.’ When we surrender, everything is released. Our identity is shattered into a million shards that cannot be put back together. We become the observer, the breath, among the shards of our former life.

My life now is one of flow. I am comfortable with uncertainty and have come to expect it. At times, it is like walking with a blindfold on, but I trust the process. The next step is always revealed in perfect timing. If I begin to think I have all the answers, I know it’s time to let go, trust and allow. My mind has taken control again!

Just like the caterpillar in the chrysalis, we must dissolve to be reborn.

If this is you, know you are not alone and you are safe. Find that place deep in your heart that knows who you are, your ancient self. Also, connect with nature – physically speak to her and ask for what you need to feel safe, protected, strong and supported. If you have a vision of your grandest life, hold it in your heart now.

I encourage you to take the leap…and the next…and the next.

You will be supported. It will change your life, and it is the quickest way to align with universal flow and your souls purpose. Your life may go into chaos, but this is a natural part of the transformational process. Remember, the caterpillar in the chrysalis must surrender, completely dissolving, before it can become the magical butterfly.
