A response of compassion in evolutionary faith to the tragedies in Japan:

"Crisis are doorways that look like hurricanes, " and tsunamis, and nuclear meltdowns, and overnight refugee camps...

"Hidden by our institutionalized not-see-ism, the crises that are coming are being co-created moment-to-moment by our collective consciousness, our technologies, our social systems, simply by doing what they were designed to do. These co-created crises are magnificent in their own complexity for their challenge and their perfect fit for our evolutionary awakening, which is underway even as you read this... They call us to step out of the box- for the box is burning!- and to transform ourselves and our world by wise choice, creating the path as we walk it. Try this the next time your disbelieving relative is coming to visit. Out with the old coffee table book to inspire conversation. Try a litre of oil. Label it “ancient sunlight”.
When the eyebrows are suitably raised offer just the facts.

This litre of oil is in reality ancient sunlight distilled over a hundred million years of geological time. Or the equivalent of five weeks of labour by 35 strong human beings.
In the 1930s, this litre returned 100 units of energy for every one unit of energy put into its extraction. Today 11 units of energy are returned for every one unit of energy put into its extraction. Higher prices to fill up your tank, you betcha!

In the course of the conversation the question of peak oil as a scam or reality will absolutely come up. Try this. The petroleum interval is actually a short span of time in history. In the 1930s 100 units of energy were returned for every 1 unit of energy put into its extraction. Today the return is only 11. Are the Alberta Tar Sands a huge investment given the reduced return expected, you betcha! There are 98 oil producing nations in the world, 65 of which have already passed their peak reserves. Is the world dependency on oil equivalent to its vulnerability, you betcha!

For those dear friends and family who want only the facts and hold the Gaia-glorious rhetoric, send them this evolutionary link and this visual record of just the facts.
Is it important we start to think about a resilient lifestyle? You betcha! Carol Kilby. E.D.

Conscious Choices for Creating the Future

by Nancy Gosse
As we bear witness to many of the destructive acts of humanity against nature, and the resulting collapse of nature’s rhythms, there is perhaps one resounding question; “how do we stop it?” It is perhaps too late to be asking why we allowed it to happen or how we could have been so blind. Humans have become so enmeshed in the destructive patterns that we fear the consequences of how much life as we know it may cease to exist if we stop the wheels already in motion.

One of the primary lessons we learn as children is to be better at making choices for which we are prepared to accept the consequences. In most of our choices today we are accepting the consequences of still doing smaller damages to earth so that we can minimize the upsets to a way of life that has become comfortable and familiar. Short term solutions have become a necessary invention to address the critical situations so as to keep the destruction at bay, but we are still left with having to choose for a longer term restorative solution.

The energy saver light bulb is one such example. It was and still is a brilliant solution to the immediate need for addressing the energy drain, but it has recently come to ‘light’ as actually posing a larger problem. They contain mercury which is an element that is very toxic and will be released back into the environment once these bulbs are disposed of. So the question is, regardless of how much energy these bulbs might have saved during their life span, how much energy will have to be spent to dispose of them? How much of a carbon footprint will they leave once they no longer serve their original purpose? This is a perfect example of a solution that solves the problem in the immediate sense but creates another set of problems for the long range vision of a healthier planet. Such is the modus operandi of how humans currently tackle the critical planetary destruction.

Green solutions are not always so clearly green in the bigger picture, which is why we need to be more vigilant in our choices. This is where you come in as a participant in the new humanity; an emerging consciously creating force to correct the balance of human and nature; where communities such as Gaia Centre and other like-minded individuals step out and address environmental and planetary evolution issues with greater scrutiny and compassion for the larger picture. We come in to play a vital role in consciously co-creating a healthier planet that puts us into the strengthening stream of awareness rather than leaving us as nothing more than an imprint in a dried up old riverbed of past mistakes. With vision, we realize that saving Mother Nature, and effectively saving humanity, extends beyond offering solutions to make our immediate lives more fluid and comfortable.
As individuals in the larger, grander scheme of the ONE life essence, we have an awesome responsibility to make better choices that are based on a clearness of vision and pureness of heart; without fear of common acceptance or popularity. It is not about destroying all of our own creations but working differently with them; from a place of trust and openness instead of rushing into decisions based on the fear of consequences if we don’t. We do not need to exert mastery or control over nature, we simply need to listen more closely and observe more objectively to take each new step with conscious awareness of the potential impact of this footstep on the formation of the future.
